Kigali Innovation City (KIC) broke ground in September 2024 and is continuing early construction work into 2026. The roughly $2 billion project is designed to house universities, AI/biotech/robotics research labs, Grade A offices, startup incubators and student housing. Africa50 has committed $400 million toward the project, which is expected to create 50,000 jobs and generate $150 million in annual ICT exports once complete.
Rwanda's broader tech sector is growing rapidly. The country's information and communication sector employment rose from about 12,000 workers in Q2 2025 to 19,000 a year later. Meanwhile, Norrsken Kigali has grown into East Africa's largest hub for entrepreneurship, bringing together over 1,000 founders and investors.
