Meta's content moderation systems failed to catch around 350 ads containing child sexual abuse material that appeared on its platforms. According to reporting from Wired, some of these ads used images of real children to create the abusive content.

The severity of the failure is underscored by the fact that images of real children—including a member of a European royal family—were incorporated into some of these ads. The discovery has prompted lawmakers to signal their intention to investigate how such material was able to evade detection.
